I’m Monica Aviles, and instead of my husband, Jesús, I have Jeronimo and Joel with me today. Joel, how old are you?
"I’m 12."
And Jeronimo?
"I’m 8."

Jesús couldn’t join us today, but I’m excited to sit down with my boys to talk about homeschooling, faith, and fun during this Christmas season.

I know the holiday season can feel overwhelming—preparing for Christmas, homeschooling, or even considering it for the first time—and trying to prioritize what matters most. In today’s episode, you’ll hear from two young boys sharing their honest thoughts about what they enjoy most, answering questions they weren’t prepared for.

Key Questions from the Episode:

  1. "What’s your favorite part about homeschooling, and why?"
Joel: “I get to do school but also enjoy time with my family and do other things.”
Jeronimo: “I like all the free time and open space I have.”
  2. "If you could describe homeschooling in three words, what would they be?"
    Jeronimo: “Good, fun, happy.”
    Joel: “Exciting, enjoyable, fun.”
  3. "What’s one thing you’ve done this week that surprised you?"
Joel: “I found an iPad feature that helps me read word problems during online math!”
Jeronimo: “I broke my swinging record—two hours outside!”
  4. "What’s one thing about Jesus you’ve learned or been reminded of this season?"
Joel: “When we say ‘I can’t,’ it’s like saying God can’t. But God can do anything.”
Jeronimo: “Creation knew the Messiah was coming—even butterflies were witnesses.”
  5. "If you were in charge of homeschool for a day, what would we do?"
Joel: “Basketball, board games, swimming, and a movie.”
Jeronimo: “Swinging, ice cream, movies, Legos, and everything!”
  6. "What’s one thing you wish all kids knew about homeschooling?"
Joel: “We do school and enjoy it—it’s not a classroom all day.”
Jeronimo: “It’s really fun and enjoyable!”
  7. "If you could study anything, no limits, what would it be?"
Joel: “Hawaiian beaches—study the food flavors!”
Jeronimo: “History—visit Pearl Harbor and fortresses like in St. Augustine.”
  8. "If you could teach a younger kid one thing about life, what would it be?"
Joel: “Enjoy your time as a kid—you’re not a kid forever.”
Jeronimo: “How to play strategy games like Risk.”
  9. "What’s one homeschool skill that will help you serve others?"
Joel: “Doing my chores—helping at home teaches responsibility for the future.”
Jeronimo: “Building—I love Legos and want to use that skill to create.”

We hope today’s conversation gave you encouragement and maybe even a new way to see homeschooling this season. Remember, homeschooling is an opportunity to build memories and something beautiful for your family. Keep it simple. Keep Christ at the center. And keep unlocking the joy of homeschool.
